The client’s brief was to produce a sculptural work for the water filled courtyard in the grand Brighton home that they were in the process of building (note that in the image below the moat has not yet been filled with water).
They were clear that they did not want a figurative piece but wanted something contemporary and timeless.
‘Torus’ symbolises the dynamic and strongly connected nature of their family life. The rounded form offers a foil to the minimalist modern architecture and its concealed pedestal and boldly cantilevered mass give a sense of movement and dynamism to the space.
